Scotland's Gift Golf - Limited Edition - Signed by C.B. Macdonald. Charles Scribner's Sons. 1928 First Edition.
Limited edition of 260, this is #44. 340 pages, plus six additional tipped-in pages in color, as issued. Red cloth with gilt lettering and original vellum. Vellum is a thin sheet of specially prepared leather (similar to parchment) used for writing, printing, or as a binding material and it is considered superior in quality. Some minor imperfections on the boards and soiling to the sensitive vellum spine as seen in the images. National map included in the back. The book includes over 57 illustrations. Charles Blair Macdonald was one of the founders of the U.S.G.A. He also designed the National Golf Links of America and Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda. This book covers early American golf, the beginnings of the U.S.G.A., the history of the National Golf Links and his design activities. Macdonald had a healthy ego and it comes through in this book. He is also a master storyteller and his insights into the game and its history, traditions and how it developed in the US are still valuable today.
