Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, 1997. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 127 pages, special St. Andrews Edition, a limited edition of only 195 copies, this is #122 and signed by the Captain of the R & A and all three authors. This book is bound in full blue clansman morocco leather, done at the Cedric Chivers bindery and comes with a royal blue slipcase with the R & A crest on it. Tells the story of the clubhouse of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St. Andrews and its art collection. The book contains a copy of the earliest known painting of the Old Course, which was done circa 1740. The book is full of images, pictures, sketches and portrait, with an especially detailed chapter on distinguished captains (pictured wearing their red jackets). The accompanying text is illuminating and the book is of very high quality. A real treat for the aficionado of golf history and the R & A. Since many of us will never get inside the R & A clubhouse, this is a nice peek behind the doors. The end paper includes a fold-out reproduction map that Alister Mackenzie drew of the Old Course. Would make an elegant gift. Donovan & Jerris L11320. We specialize in golf books. Signed by Author(s).
