The Art of Putting by Willie Park, Jr.

Published by Donald Mathieson, 1921.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First American Edition.

47 pages, green cloth with gilt lettering. Donovan & Murdoch 28680. Murdoch 589. Willie Park, Jr. won the Open Championship in 1887 and 1889. He is the first non professional or greenskeeper to design a golf course. He designed 160 courses in total including the old course at Sunningdale, Huntercombe and Maidstone on Long Island. He has a reputation as one of the best putters of all time. He was also an early designer of golf clubs and designed one of the first blade putters. This book is about his recommended putting style. Park always hit the top half of the ball, thus imparting topspin. He also advocated focusing only on the ball and not the hole. At the time, putting was done almost entirely with the wrists.

The book is in very good or better condition with only some minor imperfections on the front boards.

One of golf book collecting's gems!
