True first edition with the white flag with a '1' and the red flag with an '18' on the cover. The book contains many photographs including many early ones from Pine Valley. One of the cornerstone books on golf course architecture. Hunter collaborated with Alister MacKenzie on the design and construction of Cypress Point. He also designed a course ranked within the top #100 worldwide, the Valley Club of Montecito in California. Hunter also authored a book on poverty in 1904, essentially a book that advocated socialism in the United States.
